 UltraSound and IIPG Collaborate on Sumo Wrestling Safety
07/24/2008 The IIPG (Inflatable Industry Purchasing Group) and UltraSound Special Events Inc. are aware of the recent Sumo Wrestling accident that has occurred in Ohio at a Youth Church camp. Although not directly involved with the accident, management at UltraSound Special Events Inc. has contacted IIPG as its insurance and risk management organization and voluntarily stopped the rental of the Sumo Wrestling activity, pending further investigation. What is known is that 15 yr. old Curtis Geesman suffered fatal head trauma while participating in the event at the camp. Early reports indicate that the boy attempted to jump on his opponent, missed, and fell approximately 3'suffereing fatal trauma to his head. In a KYpost.com article, it was stated that Curtis had just finished sumo wrestling and attempted a back-flip onto his opponent. He landed on his head instead. IIPG issued an industry bulletin and UltraSound Special Events Inc. acknowledges that there are key important issues that are essential to the safe operation of any interactive activity. This includes experienced adult supervision by an attendant for activities and proper use of all safety gear provided. Use of the equipment must comply with the manufactures guidelines along with specific rules being followed to ensure the safety of participants. UltraSound will review all risk management guidelines associated with sumo wrestling before continueing to provide this activity to our clients. We understand accidents can happen and would like to expresses our deepest sympathy and prayer to the Geesman family for their loss.
